Hospitality Lighting (Hotels, Casinos, Restaurants)
The world of hospitality is a vibrant and ever-changing landscape! In this industry, the challenge of delivering unforgettable experiences is paramount to a thriving business. One powerful tool to leverage against this challenge is lighting. Proper lighting can transform any space, creating a unique and captivating experience that helps businesses shine and stand out from the competition.
While there’s no limit to the creative ways lighting can be used to transform environments, we’ve broken down three of the most common applications for modern hospitality spaces.
1. Cove Lighting:
Cove lighting is used in hospitality spaces to enhance the overall ambiance of a room or hallway and provide a heightened guest experience. By discreetly concealing light fixtures in ceiling and wall recesses, cove lighting provides soft, ambient illumination that highlights architectural details and creates a sense of luxury and sophistication.
Cove Lighting is often used in hotels and casinos to set an inviting tone and offer a warm, welcoming environment. It can also be used with color-changing or color tunable lighting to change the color or temperature for different events or at various times of day. Our expansive catalog of cove lighting products allows clients to produce cove lighting in any color and brightness level possible.
2. Linear Accent Lighting:
Linear Accent lighting is a key component in the design of hospitality venues, providing a means to highlight key features and create an augmented atmosphere.
In restaurants, accent lighting can be used to guide patrons through an area and emphasize architectural elements and dining spaces. Lighting can be strategically placed to draw attention to unique décor, such as wine displays, feature walls, or table settings, making the space more visually appealing and intimate.
In hotels, accent lighting provides both form and function. It can enhance the aesthetic of lobbies, hallways, and guest rooms by drawing attention to focal points such as artwork, fireplaces, and other architectural elements. It can also enhance safety and limit liability. Accent lighting can be integrated under hand railings and into stairs to provide extra visibility in dark spaces. Through careful selection and positioning of accent lighting, typical spaces can become dynamic and engaging environments that elevate a guest's experience.
3. Backlighting
Backlighting is another great way to draw attention to specific features. Backlighting is placing a source of light directly behind a translucent item or material so that the light brings that item to life and showcases its aesthetic qualities. It can be installed behind textured walls, graphics, artwork, and much more. It provides a contemporary look that adds depth and dimension to objects that might otherwise be lost in their surroundings.
In hotels, it can be used behind reception desks, to highlight informational or promotional signs as important focal points for hotel guests. In restaurants, backlighting can be integrated into bar areas or decorative elements to create a cozy and elegant atmosphere. By incorporating backlighting, hospitality spaces can achieve a modern and luxurious look that enhances the overall guest experience.
Our lighting and expertise is trusted by some of the most well-known hotels, casinos, and restaurants in the United States. Below are a few case studies of our work in the past.
1. The Venetian
Environmental Lights completed a stunning cove and accent lighting installation at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas! Lighting engineers at Environmental Lights used 2700K LED strip light to create a seamless and uniform glow along the length of the coves. Maintaining consistency in the color temperature and brightness of all lighting was a crucial element to provide visitors with a memorable and elevated experience.
The result is bright and dependable cove lighting that enhances the hotel’s architecture and highlights its beautiful arched ceilings and intricate details. It establishes a warm and inviting environment for guests to enjoy day and night.
2. V DTLA
V, on 7th Street and Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles, describes itself as "your new neighborhood hangout set in a converted 1920s jewelry store." By combining an inviting environment with a cornucopia of visuals, V shows how attention paid to lighting can serve as a link between design ideas.
Taking its name from the five senses and the Roman numeral "V", the 5,600-square-foot restaurant aims to stimulate all five senses while maintaining approachability. Exotic flora and warm LED lighting throughout the restaurant and bar help to tie the disparate elements together into a unique and eye-catching space.
3. Born and Raised Steak House
Located in the Little Italy neighborhood in San Diego, Born & Raised is a steakhouse that places a focus on the ambience of the 10,000-square-foot building. All corners of the restaurant are adorned in unique materials and textures, such as wood, marble and metals, which work together to provide an opulent visual experience.
Two different lighting types were used in the project. First, a 2,700K white provided the vibrant glow of the interior while also providing high-quality light that served as utility and task lighting. For accents, an Amber light added depth to the wood and metal surfaces. Both of these lights are built with CurrentControl technology to simplify installation.
Lighting plays a crucial role in the hospitality industry, shaping ambiance and enhancing guest experiences. By thoughtfully applying lighting techniques, businesses can create captivating environments that leave lasting impressions on their patrons. From setting the mood in a cozy restaurant to illuminating the grandeur of a hotel lobby, the right lighting products can make all the difference.
