Can LED lighting help enhance a security system?

A security system provides property owners with an effective solution to safeguard their businesses or residences. Many property owners are considering innovative ways to improve these systems, including light-emitting diode (LED) lighting.

According to The Gazette, an electric company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is one of many that recommends LED lighting for security systems. An expert with the company notes that LED bulbs have a shelf life quadruple that of many conventional lighting options. Additionally, LEDs require about 25 percent less energy than several traditional kinds of lighting, which helps many property owners save on their monthly electricity bills.

Equipping a property with LEDs could prove to be a helpful, long-term option for business operators and homeowners. These bulbs can help enhance the quality of a security system, and normally pay for themselves over the course of a few years.

"The return [on LEDs] is very good," the expert told the news source. "We see paybacks anywhere between two years and eight years."

Property owners can brighten up their buildings with LEDs. These bulbs produce very little heat, yet deliver an efficiency that is the same or better than many fluorescent lighting options. LED units produce a light output that remains consistent - the U.S. Department of Energy reports the output is roughly 35,000 hours or 12 years, based on a use of 8 hours per day.  Additionally, LEDs turn on instantly to further safeguard a property, building owners and their belongings.

Improve the performance of a property's security system by using LED bulbs. These units can make a tremendous difference in helping building owners stay safe and reduce their electricity expenses.
