A' bulbs emit light in all directions. The best technology at the moment for 'non-directional' light is compact fluorescent, since LED's are directional. We sell some very nice color-changing A-shape LED bulbs you can use for decorative accent lighting, but for bright 'light bulb' shape lights, buy CFL's. Helix (Coil) bulbs are a bit more energy efficient than 'A'-shape CFL's, but some people prefer the 'A' shape. Also, some lampshades clip on to the bulb, so you'd buy one of these A bulbs for that purpose.
